Here is a list of alternative songs about love, just in time for that certain day of the year when roses, fluffy teddy bears and heart shaped chocolates are everywhere. All songs on this list have been hand picked from Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2010. This is the list of most popular alternative songs of 2010 as voted in by over two hundred and fifty thousand listeners of the Australian radio station, Triple J.
- Post-Punk – Example – Kickstarts
This is an up-beat song that tells a story of a relationship that may be about to fizz out. But before it does, the singer takes a moment to imagine life without her, and, as the song goes “love kick starts again”.
- Garage-Rock – The Black Keys – Howlin’ For You
This is certainly no cutesy, mainstream love song, but still quite up beat. The lyrics aren’t hugely elaborate, the title is a good indication of what they will contain.
- Alternative Rock – Muse – Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)
This is quite a typical Muse song, but it is one of the least happy love songs on this list. I do love how the lyrics compare the love between the two as a neutron star collision
- Rock – Little Red – Slow Motion
To me this song paints a picture of being stuck in slow motion while everything and everyone around seems to be moving so fast. The only one moving in slow motion with me is the one I love. This is just my itnerpretation though.
- Indie Folk – Darwin Deez – Radar Detector
This is a cruisy, up-beat song that tells a story of two people that have just met and really like each other. They are just hanging around Los Angeles, doing normal things that couples do. One interpretation is that she is a radar detector as she always looks out for him.
- Folk – Angus and Julia Stone – Big Jet Plane
This is actually the song that won Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2010. It’s melow vibe tells a story of meeting someone for the first time and instantly feeling a connection. It also talks about taking the one you love for a ride on a big jet plane.
